For those of us who do magickal workings this can indeed be a busy time. The time of the month for magick that needs to grow, like love, attraction spells and good luck.
The waxing moon phase is also known as the maiden moon, a time to praise Epona, the Celtic horse goddess, whose authority extended even beyond death, accompanying the soul on its final journey and Artemis, the daughter of Leto and Zeus, and the twin of Apollo. Artemis is the goddess of the wilderness, the hunt and wild animals, and fertility.
A lot of folk lore and superstition associated with the phases of moon spread through out the years many of them related to harvest times, for instance not to pick fruit while the moon is waxing for the fruit will bruise easily, or that the best time harvesting was during the waxing moon. Not to mention if you want your hair or grass to grow back quickly after a cut you must do it while the moon is waxing. Another subject that was very serious in old time was ‘moon madness’ it was so serious in fact that the word lunatic comes from Lunar “meaning moon”.
There are a number of interesting facts related to the moon, for instance most births occurs just after the full moon and most murders take place around the new and full moon. With the human body being almost 70% water and the known effects the pull of the moon has on oceans, lakes and other bodies of water it is no surprise that the moon is capable of affecting us in some way.
There are a number of spells that are believed to gain benefit from being cast at the waxing of the moon here is a list of the types of spells that should be considered during this time.
Artistic Creations, Career Advancement, Energy Raising, Fertility Rituals, Friendship, Garden Planting Spells, Attaining Goals, Good Luck, Growth, Harmony, Happiness, Healings, Inspiration, Judgment, Love Magick, Money Matters, Obtaining, Power, Protection, Real estate (to buy), Sexual Desires, Strength, Teaching, Unions, Weather Workings(to bring forth), Weight Gain, Wisdom and Wish-Magick.
And lastly here is a simple wish spell that will gain from being cast during the waxing phase of the moon. (Note this spell was not tested by me and I cannot guarantee that it will work.)
Needed Supplies
- 1 sheet of quality paper/parchment (unused)
- A pen/pencil used in magickal works
- Candles (usually white but can change depending on your wish)
- Cauldron (or something that a flame can burn in)
Do a relaxation ritual before the spell and clear your mind well. Concentrate on the spell not the joy afterwards.
Take the paper/parchment and draw a pentagram in the middle of it. Then draw a yin-yang symbol in the middle of it. Now write down your wish on the top of the sheet. Write your wish such as “Make me get rich, make my mother/friend etc. get healed, make me the ‘the thing you want’’’…
Then fold the sheet 2-3 times and seal it with your candle. Then burn it with the fire of the candle you sealed it. While it turns into ashes, repeat your wish inside yourself or out loud. When it’s all ash, sprinkle the ashes from a window or such.
