Your numbers are a little off, but you are correct in the facts, dogs have been pets for a significantly longer time than cats, in fact there are signs that dogs were kept as early as the stone age, although they were probably used to hunt and not so much as pets back then, that’s about 30,000 to 35,000 years ago maybe even longer.

Cats have been associated with humans for at least 6,000 to 8,000 years, thousands of mummified cats have been found in tombs in Egypt some even with their very own tombs built for them. They were associated at the time with Bast and were literally seen as gods themselves.
