Hello - I'm visiting SA in August .

Greetings,

I am a Gardnerian from the UK and wil be visiting SA (Cape Town, Kruger Park and Johannesburg) in August for a holiday. I wondered if anyone would like to recommend any must-see or must-do activities, or maybe even meet up with me?

Thanks and BB,

Merry Meet Melissa.

I gather you will be landing in CT. Well the sites would depend on how long you will be in South-Africa

The Wineries are always a must see, The Mountain top be a true treat to do the "feeling might" chant. Extremly envigourating. and the wood ofcourse

Freestate------> I think the only nice sites be Golden gate and Gariep Dam

Gauteng------> The traffic . Nah I dnt realy know that part very well, I only go in that direction f there be no other choice, But I know people whom loves that place.

Blessed Be

Hi Wisewoman,

I hope you enjoy your trip to our country, we do not have many religious or spiritual places in this country but what we do have is a lot of unspoilt nature where you can get closer to nature.

Cape Town is on of the jewels of the country, if you can Go up Table Mountain (we just call it "the Mountain" in S.A), visiting cape point is a must if time allows, there is something special about the place where two oceans meet, there is even a small beach you can hike to on the point. The wine routes are a must, if you enjoy Wine at all you'll find South African wines to be very good and very under valued. at the Spier Wine Farm in the Paarl Area, you can even cuddle up to a few hand raised cheetah and eagles.

Kruger Park, Now I'm getting jealous, as if Cape Town wasn't enough, enjoy the luxury of the Kruger Park camps and the tours, but make sure that you do one very important thing, arrange for one of the overnight hikes that many operators in the Kruger offer, it usually starts with a Hike in the morning into the wild bush, with one or two armed guides, they are armed because you are really in the wild african bushveld, and there are lions, elephants etc. the mornings hike ends at an overnight camp area, with really nothing but a "tent", and a fire circle, the nights meal is prepared from provisions you will have carried with you, and is all done around the campfire, the next morning is started with a cup of coffee around the fire that you will never forget, not because the coffee is good though, the next mornings hike will take you back to one of the luxury camps you started from. you'll never get or feel closer to nature.

"Life's journey is not to arrive at the end safely in a well preserved body, but rather to slide in sideways totally worn out shouting, "holy sh*t...what a ride!"

Re: Hello - I'm visiting SA in August .

In Gauteng you might want to try out the lion park were you can drive with a ranger or a hired car in the park itself and afterwards play with the lion cubs.  If you have a lot of time in the Eastern transvaal (Kruger national park) you might want to the visit the three rondavals, gods window and numorous waterfals in the graskop area.

You can also consider goint to the cradle of humankind in gauteng at sterkfontein.  Close to the Cradle is the Kromdraai wonder cave and the rhino and lion nature reserve.

Warning don't go to places alone and keep your handbag close.

Re: Hello - I'm visiting SA in August .

Blessings Wisewoman,

I hope you will have a fabulous time here in SA when you come to visit.

Some suggestions:

Try and learn some of the Local Language, it is very much appreciated by resort staff, like "Dankie" = Thank you, etc. etc.

A friendly smile goes a long way, and is always appreciated.

Always be safety concious.  If it feels wrong, do not go there.

Do NOT look like a tourist, keep your camera, cellphone, etc. out of sight.  Stay within a group, do not travel or walk alone.

A brochure entitled Helpful Hints to Make Your Stay Enjoyable and Safe is distributed to tourists at international airports.  It can be very helpful.

The top 10 tourist attractions in South Africa are:

1. Kruger National Park
2. Table Mountain
3. Garden Route
4. Cape Town’s Victoria and Alfred Waterfront
5. Robben Island
6. Beaches
7. Sun City
8. Cultural villages
9. Soweto
10.   The Cradle of Humankind

Even though you will not be able to visit all these wonderful places, I am sure you will have a great time, I hope you will be back on this website when you return, telling us about your trip and sharing some of the memorable moments with us all.

I have lived in Johannesburg all my life, and LOVE it.  I am a true "Jozi" person at heart, and will probably always life here.  The bustle, traffic, people, it is all a vibe unique to Johannesburg.  I love the rest of this beautiful country just as much, have travelled SA a lot, loves the "countryside" a lot, the peace and tranquility, and enjoy our regular family visits to the farm a lot, but love the cities just as much.

Have a wonderful time,

In Love and Light,

LunaRiver.
