Witchcraft

Hi to all

I am new to the site and my husband is new to the crafts. I have done some research and done a few things here and there. I have a few questions that I hope someone will be able to answer for me or give some advice.

Myself and my husband are interested in doing magick. Due to his religious believes he does not want to call quarters, deal with the gods or deities, cast circles, anything to do with spirits or the pentagram. I myself understand some of the stuff and have no problem with it, but because we are married and I love him dearly, I don't want to do anything that can harm him or make him uncomfortable. Is there any way of becoming a witch without all of the above mentioned ingredients. We have looked at the book called Herb Magick and he likes that sort of way of doing things. I myself have been told by three different people that I am a wise old soul and a natural witch. I am very interested in becoming a witch and my husband only wishes to practice the craft in some way.

If there is anyone that can give us any sort of information or someone to call or see or speak to or anything of the sort it would be greatly appreciated.

Thanx Mel

Re: Witchcraft

Merry Meet Mel :)

I think perhaps the first thing to understand is that Paganism (the umbrella term for Wicca, Shamanisim, Druidism, pick a path) is, for me, one that allows for all religeons. There is no right, and no wrong. I'm also on this path for a very short time, only three years now, so perhaps others will have wiser words.

All I can say is, your beloved must choose his way, as you must choose yours. There can be no permission granting, or allowing of each other to do what feels right.

The one basic law of Wicca is, If it hurts no-one, do you what you will. If you, and he, can understand that very simple concept, (which by the way, is a lot harder than it seems :) ),then you both will have taken a very large step.

I'm sure the research you've done has told you how Christianity has its roots in Wicca, and that in fact, the two are very close. The only difference really is that Wicca/Paganism is a nature based religeon. Research though is key, and I did two years worth, not intense, but gently, one day, one week, one month at a time at a time, exploring what felt right and brought me peace.

I've started formalising my education now and I'm very lucky to have found an amazing Witch who has taken a few of us learner drivers for a few lessons. Unfortunately, she is going overseas in August, but I can ask her to recommend someone.

Look around, research, ask questions, trust your gut and reject whatever feels wrong. Trust your gut instinct, it's the lessons of a thousand lifetimes telling you whats going on. As for speaking to others, there is a Pagan freedom day on Monday, come along and meet some pointy hatters :)

Re: Witchcraft

Hi there

The great thing about being a wiccan is that you can choose how and what you want to do.  If something makes you feel uncomfortable do not do it.  You don't have to call a God of Goddess into a circle or even call the four quarters if you don't feel like it.  The reason why we create a circle is for protection and to create a "doorway" to other realms if you are doing a simple spell you don't have to create a circle.  When however you work with God and Goddesses it is recommended to create a circle and remember the Gods have a sence of humour that is not always funny for us,  I would recommend that you start to work with angels especially in the beginning and usually no one have any trouble working with angels.

The huge thing about becoming a wiccan is not spells or calling spirits but it is more loving everything that is, whether it is a rock a tree of a person, secondly it is taking responsibility for what you do and think not blaming anyone if something goes wrong.

If you go to the fair tomorrow you will find that there is a lot of different ways of being a wiccan or pagan and that no one judge the person next to them for believing in something a little different than them or doing something different than the way they do it, you will however if you get advice find that it comes from personal experience most of the time and the person giving it to you will leave you to make up your own mind.

I must admit I myself is not a very ritual person and are very lazy when it comes to calling quaters and spirits so don't stress about it for one second, just be comfortable with what you do.
