Full Altar Layout

When setting up you altar you always think of the elements and their different quarters.
North   = Fire
South   = Earth
West    = Water
East     = Air
Middle = Spirit
It is not the end of the world if you do not know your compass direction that well as long as you think you have it in the right area it will do.
 
When looking at the pentagram the top point of the pentagram is Spirit, Left = Water, Bottom Left = Earth, Bottom Right = Fire and Right = Air.
 
Your pentagram is there for protection and life force in the physical realm
Tools (Tools is just an object to help you with your visualization and to connect with the divine to bring down info as well diverting energy, it does not have to be expensive and you do not always need it but for beginners they can be of great help)
 
Tools
                       
Mortal & Pestle:
Use for crushing and mixing your herbs for your spells.
Bells/Singing Bowl:
Use to cleanse out in the places that is hard to reach, Evil cannot Withstand the high pitch sound of a bell or singing bowl and the vibrations of the singing bowl changes negative energy into positive. Bells are used during ritual to call in the quarters, to signify the beginning or end of the ceremony or to invoke the Goddess.
Olive Oil:
To anoint your forehead with
Cauldron:
Used for divination, Symbol of creativity and giving birth to new creations. Associated with the Goddes.
Athame:
Normally double blade and should never be used to cut anything physical with. Used to cast a circle and direct energy. Associated with Fire.Masculine.
Wand:
Used for healing and casting circles as well as directing energy. Feminine, and associated with Air.
Crystal:
Used for divination and scrying. Associated with Earth.
Chalice:
Used for divination and scrying. Associated with Water. This is a tool connected with the Goddess through womb symbolism.
Pentagram:
Can be drawn, made out of wood or iron; whatever suits you best.
Book of Shadows:
Any book you can write in; you can only write spells in or you can make it your diary it depends on you.
Mirror:
Your Goddess figure, also place a white of silver candle to represent the Goddes.
Feather:
Used for smudging. Associated with Air. Smudging...is a simple ritual whenever or wherever you feel the need to cleanse, balance or purify yourself, others, a room, your crystals or other special tools.
Tarot Deck:
Used for Divination
Salt:
Used for Blessings and creating of sacred water, Associated with Earth.
Dragon
Your God Figure, also place a yellow or golden candle to represent the God.
Broom:
Used for protection, cleansing and removing old energies. Your broom should not be used physically. In hand fasting rituals, couples often jump over the broom if they want children. (If you don't want children, DON'T JUMP! The combination of the "brush" and the handle are a very powerful fertility symbol.) Many Witches have a broom-brushy side up-by their door to protect the home from unwanted outside energies.
 
 
Air: (East)
Feather, Wand
Attributes: Travel, ideas, imagination, new beginnings, joy, intellect, freedom, forgetfulness
Herbs: Lavender, meadowsweet, sage, mint, pine, mistletoe
Stones: Clear quartz, amethyst, fluorite,
Zodiac: Aquarius, Gemini, Libra
Fire (North)
Athame, Incense,
Attributes: Passion, strength, ego, energy, jealousy, anger, creativity, willpower
Herbs: Basil, cinnamon, cedar, rosemary, damiana, frankincense
Stones: Garnet, carnelian, bloodstone, tiger eye
Zodiac: Aries, Leo, Sagittarius
Earth (South)
Crystals, Salt
Attributes: Nature, endurance, prosperity, money, responsibility, growth, wisdom,
Herbs: Patchouli, mugwort, vervain, honeysuckle, cypress, vetivert
Stones: Moss agate, aventurine, onyx, jet, peridot
Zodiac: Taurus, Virgo, Capricorn
Water (West)
Cauldron, Chalice
Attributes: Love, mystery, fertility, sleep, compassion, healing, sorrow, friendship,
Herbs: Jasmine, lilac, valerian, gardenia, rose, sandalwood,
Stones: Aquamarine, jade, malachite, moonstone
Zodiac: Pisces, Cancer, Scorpio

Hi there

Since you are in the Northern Hemisphere you can turn Earth and Fire around

Earth = North
Fire = South

The rest you can keep the same though.

NO, not really. Your altar is best when it's need-specific. Make it your own. Remember that your circle and altar is YOUR place of worship, so, if it doesn't work for you it's basically pointless.

As long as you have your Atheme, a chalice and a crucible you should be fine.
